Audition CS6 Apply Favorite to Selection Only

I would like to select a section of the recording and use a favorite and keyboard shortcut to apply -18dB to only the selection. When recording the favorite and trying to use it, I get one of two results: it won't run the favorite because it can't match the selection area or it applies to the whole file.
