Hello everyone,
I am beginning my journey into recording podcasts and Audition is what I always use to work with audio, and I plan for that to continue with my podcasting adventure. However when making recordings, I've experienced some frustration with the low input levels I seem to be getting and I'm not knowledgeable enough to correct the problem. I am sure it is something simple. Here is my setup:
- First and foremost I run a Mackie Pro FX8 mixer. When I am using one mic, it is a Heil PR40 (just acquired, I'm pretty pleased haha). I run this for flexibility, the ease of doing Mix Minus type audio setups, etc.
- The board is connected to my macbook pro via a 1/4" to USB adapter
- Audition then recognizes this as a standard USB audio interface, and all my other controls are done through the board itself, as they should be
Now my issue is that the sound going into audition is SO low. Granted, I am not SUPER familiar with using mixing boards, but I know you aren't just supposed to crank everything up as that will also pick up too much noise etc and distort things. But I mean, the waveform bars barely even move. They are tiny. And when I amplify the volume, the noise gets far too loud too properly be removed in post.
Can someone offer me some clues as to what I may be doing wrong? Do I need inline mic amplifiers? What should I be checking on the board, what should I be checking on the Macbook? I'm pretty frustrated and want to get going on this, and I've received so much incredible help from these forums, I wanted to check with you folks first.
Thank you VERY much in advance for any suggestions you can provide.
Kyle
