HOW TO? Manually adjust amplitude of one track in multitrack project (manual ducking)

I'm new to Audition, so I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I can't seem to manually duck my music track in a multitrack project. When I view only the music track and select a section, the HUD appears and I can lower the level for just the selected section. However, I need to do this in the multitrack view to match my ducking with the voice over sections. When I try this in the multitrack view, no HUD pops up (yes, HUD is selected to show) and if I adjust the level to the left of the track it changes it for the whole track, not just my selected area. I've searched videos online and they all either show how to do auto ducking or adjust levels on a single track.

For those that will suggest the auto ducking, I already am doing that, but it is a little buggy and my ducking needs are very simple and would have a better result if I do it manually.

Thanks for any help!
