"Silence in Track" silences whole clip

I'm using Audition to edit a podcast with 3 speakers, and each speaker has a separate (very long) mono track. One of the tools I've been using a lot is "Silence time selection in track," to remove random keyboard noises, slurps etc. It seems the intended behavior is to create 4 keyframes, and drop the two internal ones to negative infinity db. Which is great - when it's bound to a keyboard shortcut it dramatically reduces my editing time.

But sometimes, with no rhyme or reason that I can discern, it will drop all 4 keyframes to neg infinity. This doesn't happen every time, but it happens often enough that it's almost not worth using the tool. Usually once I fix it or undo it and do it manually, the next one or two will work, but then it will happen again. I honestly can't figure out what it is that causes it (though I have noticed that once it starts happening, if I undo and try again it will continue to happen until I add or adjust a keyframe manually.

UPDATE: Apparently, for some clips this happens every time. In others (in the same multitrack session) it doesn't ever happen.
