How to reduce gain in a selected area with a hotkey?

Hi! I do audiobook narration, and when I'm editing, I find myself constantly selecting areas where I took a loud breath, then pulling on the slider to reduce the db so it's not heard. This gets repetitive. Is there any way I could create a favorite and assign a hotkey to it so that I could select the breath, then hit the hotkey and it would automatically reduce it -30db, for example?

 

I tried recording a favorite, but when I try to apply it, it gives me the message "the recorded time selection could not be applied." Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if this isn't possible...it seems like it should be a fairly simple task. Just a hotkey to automatically "DeAmplify" by a specified amount.

 

How might I do this? Thanks!

How to Record an Interview call through Skype in Audition CC

Hi,

 

I would like to record a Skype Interview call using Adobe Audition CC.

 

I have seen posts about this topic, however, no one gives a step by step process to set it up if you are an absolute newbie to Audition.

 

I am able to get Track 1 to reconize my voice, but I can't figure out how to get Track 2 to pick up the other person's voice I am interviewing through the Skype call. I am using Skype's call recording as a back up, however, I hear the call quality is better if it goes straight into Adutiton.

 

Do I need a mixer for this to be possible?

 

I am sure it has something to do with the input and output, but just ahve no idea where to start.

 

Any help would be greatly apprecaited!

"effect not found," effect pre-sets not loaded

I'm a happy user of Audition 5.5.

 

Today, when loading a session file created for me by a user of Audition CC, I got the following error message: "1 of the 5 effects referenced by the file could not be found: Single-band Compressor."  Also, the presets that were in the session file didn't load into the effects rack.

 

(The Single-Band Compressor is an effect available to me under Effects>Amplitude and Compression.)

 

Any help would be appreciated!

How is TOTAL RMS different than AVERAGE RMS

I create spoken-word recordings.  One company that I work with specifys that the recording should be at a level that measures between -23 RMS and -18RMS.  It appears that audio editing programs label their RMS readings in various ways.  I had been using Average RMS but I think maybe this company is using a standard that comes closer to what ADOBE calls TOTAL RMS.  What attributes cause Audition to give one value to AVERAGE RMS and another value as AVERAGE RMS?

Problems with CD burning

Hi.

 

I recently have some problems when burning a CD. I usually do that in two ways: or with the CD Editor (cdlx) or with "Export < Burn Audio to CD". In both cases I always had no problems. I also normally use the markers (merged CD markers, the yellow ones).

 

Now I had the problem that the CDs come in .aiff with no titles (just the tracks)... my autoradio and other CD readers can't read them. I should have set something... but I can't say or remember. Any suggestion?

Adobe Audition is cracking while recording voice.

I am running a few different computers with Adobe Audition for my radio station, we just transitioned over from Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and one computer is giving me an issue with crackling when recording. The thing is I am running Cool Edit Pro on the same computer and the cracking does not happen when recording to that program. I've been running through many different settings within Audition, and I don't really see any difference in the way the programs hardware are mapped. Any ideas?

dsf or dff formats - apparently aren't supported. Any way to open them in audition? Or will there be in the near future?

Trouble creating a favorite in Adobe Audition 6.5

I'm trying to create a favorite in Adobe Audition 6.5 but I keep getting an error message that a favorite is already in the process of being created and that I need to stop recording the current one and start again.   So I got to "Favorites" and then "stop recording", I get the message, "A new favorite could not be recorded because no supported actions were recorded".  So I click ok and go back again and click on "Start recording favorite" but I get the same error message.  Nothing I do can stop this error cycle.  I've tried closing out of everything and going back in, but the error remains.  Any ideas?

Noisey shotgun mic setup - need advice

I am using my Zoom H4n recorder with a rented Rode NTG-8 shotgun mic. So far, my results have been very noisey. Below is an example of the audio without any changes, and the second example has some amplification and noise reduction in audition. I was indoors when this audio was captured, and there was little to no noise in the house.  This is my first time using a shotgun with my H4n, so any feedback is appreciated.

 

Edit: I should clarify. My question is more about what settings I can change on the H4n to reduce noise, rather than fixing it in Audition.

Is this audio too far gone or can audition be of help?

The linked short clip starts normally but at 10 seconds the gain drops and becomes distorted.  It was originally recorded with a sony hd cam and a wireless mic.  The mic is the obvious culprit.  There is about a 3 minute stretch out of a 90 minute presentation where the audio is corrupted.  I would really like to find a way to make it so that it would be at least understandable.  I have been using audition for a short time and know the basics and that is about it.  Are there audition effects that might help me out or is this a lost cause?

Rack Mix automation inaccurate?

The Rack Mix automation seems a few seconds behind if certain Effects are present (whether enabled or not), such as Reverb or Full Reverb. I placed two keyframes between which the Rack Mix for a Clip ascends from 0% to 100%, but the ascent starts slightly earlier than where the first keyframe is. Likewise, the point at which the Rack Mix drops from 100% to 0% also happens earlier too. Any fix for this?

Audition CS6 randomly crashes on startup

I've encountered a strange problem with Adobe Audition CS6 that I'm currently trying to get to the bottom of at work on Windows 7 64-bit with user accounts that are managed Active Directory accounts with a default user profile that has no previous Adobe Audition settings, apart from the text file that turns off Adobe Graphics Manager (as it crashed all the time without that).

 

So far I've checked the following:

 

  • Audition CS6 is fully patched to version 5.0.2 (it was as part of the Adobe Application Manager package for Master Collection CS6)
  • Users have enough file rights to their Application Data folders
  • The setting for turning Adobe Graphics manager off is correct (I used the text file from Adobe's knowledge base article)

 

Occasionally, when Audition CS6 launches, it brings up the main window, the mouse shows the circle, and as soon as you click on the File menu, it exits out.  On next launch you get the usual Adobe Audition crashed on previous startup.  Do you wish to continue or delete the session? - clicking delete kills the old session, starts fresh and works fine.

 

Normally the temporary session folder in the user's Application Data/Roaming/Adobe/Audition/5.0 folder deletes itself on exit of Audition, but if it crashes the folder remains, hence the prompt on next start.  However, there is no consistency to how it crashes.

 

Are there any other settings or preferences to apply to see if it makes a difference, or is there anything else which is known to cause the crashing on launch issue?

Byte stream error in Audition

I have an audio file that will not import - it returns the error: The byte stream type of the given URL is unsupported.

 

This file is a little strange - it is an MP3 which plays super sped up in Quicktime and not at all in any other player.  I attempted to change the file type, and attempted to play it on a windows machine (I read that wma files can sometimes have this issue).  So far, no luck.

 

Any thoughts as to how to recover/encode this file to get it to play?

I have tried to configure the settings to record from my headset and have not been successful. I am using Windows Vista. I have the headset selected for input but still nothing. How can I record voice?

Using Effects During Audio Playback, Why Can't I?

Hello everyone,

 

So let me start by saying that I'm very new to Audition, so please keep that in mind!

 

So, I'm currently editing a few songs I recorded - When I add effects to a track such as "Full Reverb", it gets marked out in a red color and I can't edit the settings of the effect while the song is playing - which I find very inhibiting, since it's nice to hear what you are changing and tinkering with as you do so. (Not to mention it's easier to figure out what settings do that way)

 

I understand that running many effects at once could cause playback issues, which is likely the result of this feature... but is there a way around it? It seems ridiculous that I can't listen to one effect while playing a song that is only utilizing that one effect on one of it's two tracks. I've had DAW's block me off from utilizing lots of effects at once, but never just one or two.

 

In addition to all of that, I have an absolute powerhouse desktop workstation that could absolutely handle this sort of work without issue.

 

So, my question... How can I go about editing effects more seemlessly? This feature that's greying them out during playback is an absolute pain.

EDIT: Another problem I've noticed with this feature, is half the time it seems to just break down. Sometimes you can't edit the settings AT ALL even when the track isn't playing. It greys out all of the characteristics regardless.

Grouping channels in Audition?

Hi,

 

Ok, I seem to be looking for an answer to this question by asking the wrong questions. I am moving to a new setup and my studio and using Audition CC to record but I seem to be lacking the proper Audition terminology.....

 

What I want to do is take several tracks in a mix - say all the drum tracks - and assign them to a group where I can control that group via one fader in the mx. ie - so I can control the overall volume of a drum mix in the main mix without having to adjust the individual tracks in the mix itself. I am coming from using a Mackie D8B and assigning tracks to a group and using the group fader was very easy. 

 

My understanding of a mix group and what my current manuals on Audition tell me about groups in Audition seem to be rather vastly different.

 

Can anyone enlighten me on this process in Audition?

Ducking Music under Voiceover not functioning

Hello Everyone, 

 

I am on a Mac with OSX 10.9.1.  I currently have the trial version of Adobe Audition.  Here is my issue.  I am having a problem with the side chain.  I am taking all the necessary steps.  Following this tutorial to the letter on youtube.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A75rS9oXOeM 

 

And the music does not duck under the VO.  I have restarted the Mac, Adobe Audition, tried different tracks, used no processing with the exception of the dynamics processor needed.  I have tried it all and still nothing.  Is this is bug in the Mac version?  Or is it because I am using the trial?  I don't want to sign up for something that is not funtioning properly. 

 

I need this desperately as I just booked several jobs that require a music bed to be ducked behind my VO.  Any help would be a very big deal!
