Audio from Audition mutes when minimized or window loses focus

Hi, I've been having significant difficulty getting Adobe Audition CC to continue playing when the Audition window a.) loses focus or b.) is minimized. I've done a lot of looking around in this forum and other places, but haven't yet figured out what's going on here. I suspect it has to do with an ASIO driver conflict, but I can't nail down where exactly.

I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit), with a Digigram VX222HR soundcard.  The soundcard is synched to a digital board console via a digital AES-EBU connection.  I have 8 GB of RAM, and have experienced no other problems with the computer recently.  This problem is fairly recent, and I noticed it started when I had to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 7 Enterprise on my production computer. I've installed the latest driver for the VX222HR, and have checked the "Enable multi-client mode" box mode.

I've also made sure that the proper soundcard inputs and outputs are selected in the Windows Control Panel.  The sample rates and everything else appear to be working correctly. In fact, Audition sounds great in all other respects, so long as I never click on anything outside of the application. As mentioned previously, I suspect there is a driver conflict, because occasionally Audition does occasionally allow audio to continue playing when it's no longer the dominant window on my desktop.

I know that in previous versions of Audition, there was an option to "Release ASIO driver in background."  But that option is not displayed when I click Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware Setup.

One other note:  It's no problem for any other set of applications to play multiple audio sources at the same time using the same ASIO configured soundcard.  For example, I can play music from Windows Media Player and a YouTube video at the same time.  So the soundcard can clearly handle this.  However, Audition CC appears to be the only program that will not cooperate.

If other programs are playing audio, it will not play audio.  And the reverse is true as well.  If other applicatoins are playing audio while Audition is open but not doing anything, Audition will not be able to play any audio subsequently. It's as if the program completely freezes, and will not even respond to menu commands momentarily.  I usually have to a.) close the other application and b.) restart Audition CC to get it to start playing audio again.

I've been scouring the Adobe forums and doing Google searches far and wide, and am thoroughly stumped as to why this is happening.  And why Audition will occasionally actually change it's behavior and continue playing audio even when minimized, seemingly at random.  Appreciate any guidance on what's going on -- and how I can possibly fix it.  (I work at a public radio station, and there are a couple of production workstations using the same soundcard model that are affected by this.)  Thanks.
