DeEsser and DeSher: what is difference?

$

Rusty with CoolEdit / Audition 1.0. Newbie with Audition CS6 (trial).

I'm unclear what the difference is between "DeEsser" and "DeSher". My speculation is that it involves a difference range of frequencies. The Adobe documentation discusses DeEsser, but not DeSher.

When would it be appropriate to use DeEsser vs DeSher? Would it be appropriate to use both in some circumstances for human speech?

HowTo? learn about converting from Audition 1.0 scripts to "Effects Rack" + Batch?

Rusty with CoolEdit / Audtion 1.0. Newbie with CS6 trial.

I've got a lot of human speech tracks to clean up. Previously, I used the scripting capability of Audition 1.0 with the following "chain of effects":

  • Convert to mono + 22050 hz
  • Normalize to 90%
  • ClickFix plug-in
  • Noise reduction
  • Truncate long silences
  • Amplitude + Dynamics processing to "Level"
  • Re-normalize to 90%
  • Add 2 sec of silence at end
  • Output as 24kbps / 22050 .mp3

My understanding is that Audition CS6 stopped supporting "scripts" several versions back. Bummer. My speculation is that the equivalent can be accomplished with the "Effects Rack" + "Batch Process". Or not?

I'd appreciate a link to a tutorial or article that discusses "best practices" to accomplish the equivalent of "Scripts".

HowTo? Fix DeEsser + DeHum + Hiss into obsolete "chain of effects" from Audition 1.0?

Rusty with CoolEdit / Audtion 1.0. Newbie with CS6 trial.

I'm unclear where several Effects belong in a "chain of effects" to clean up a lot of human speech tracks. Specifically, what is "best practice" for where the following effects "fit":

  • DeEsser and/ or DeSher
  • Hiss reduction
  • DeHummer

Previously, I used the scripting capability of Audition 1.0 with the following "chain of effects":

  • Convert to mono + 22050 hz (as applicable, if not already)
  • Normalize to 90%
  • ClickFix plug-in
  • Noise reduction
  • Truncate long silences to no longer than 0.8 sec
  • Amplitude + Dynamics processing to "Level / comprand"
  • Re-normalize to 90%
  • Add 2 sec of silence at end
  • Output as 24kbps / 22050 .mp3

How do I calibrate new speakers with Audition CS6?

I have purchased Audioengine 2  powered desktop speakers and an Audioengine S8 powered subwoofer to use for editing audio files with Audition CS6. While these sound great, I would like to find software and/or hardware to calibrate these with Audition. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Multi-track duration issue when inserting clips

I apologize if I missed this anywhere.  Tried to search first.

I'm using Audition cs6 and I have a clip in my waveform viewer.  I have already created a new multi-track session that matches the specs of the source files.

HOWEVER, when I make a selection on the source file and select "Insert into multitrack" and then select the session, it inserts it 14-hours and 22-minutes into the blank 30-second session.  This throws off the whole viewing slider and it becomes very difficult to manipulate the timeline.  If I simply drag the file from the browser and then re-trim it, it's fine, but not using the insert command.

Why is this and is there a way to correct this?

Any help would be wonderful

Is "Sound Remover Effect" in AA-CS6 trial? CC trial? Not until June 17, 2013?

I came across this interesting training tutorial video from Jeff Sengstack:

http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-audition-cc/using-the-sound-remover-ef fect/

It discusses use of what appears to be a very powerful tool:

Sound Remover Effect a.k.a. "Semi-supervised source separation"

I'm about two weeks into the AA-CS6 trial, and don't see the "Sound Remover Effect". Is that strictly a Creative-Cloud effect?  Or am I doing something wrong? PEBKAC?

I did speak on the phone with Adobe-Sales and then Adobe-Tech-Support. The impression I got was that Audition-CC would be updated June 17, 2013, possibly to include this "Sound Remover Effect". Or not? Is it already available?

Also, they indicated that AA-CS6 trial was in actuality the AA-CC software trial. Hmmm ... except my trial doesn't include the "Sound Remover Effect".

Perhaps I have an "old" trial? I have my doubts I'll be to restart my CS6 trial once it has lapsed.

Activating Audition 3.0

I've had to reinstall Audition 3.0 from the original CD but I can't activate it because the activations server is shut down. There has to be a way to convince the software that it's legitimately activated and therefore usable. I think I had seen a technique somewhere but don't have a printout of it.

Where is Sound Remover in my Audition CS6

Having recently downloaded Audition from Creative Cloud, I was looking on Adobe TV at some of the new features including "Sound Remover." When I wanted to try out the effect, neither "Learn Sound Model" or "Sound Remover" showed in the Noise Reduction effects. The only options showing are the familiar ones from CS5.5. Can anyone help?

Recording Audio from the Internet

I just got a new computer at home loaded with Windows 7.  I downloaded Audition 3 earlier this week and I am having trouble figuring out how to record audio from the internet (say a youtube video) into Audition.  Keep in mind, this is a home computer.  I don't have a  mixing board set up here at the house.  Any advice?

Could this be an "unfixable problem?"  I have heard that Windows 7 makes this kind of recording virtually impossible in order to avoid copyright infringement.

How do you correct 8 ms. out of phase delay on a outdoor recording

$

I recorded an outdoor concert and noticed about an 8 ms delay between the left and right channels (because of mic placement).

How would you correct that in CS 6 so the left and right channels line up in phase. autophase correction did not work and to correcting it manually in that function was off the chart so to speak.

I tried the standard delay function and entered -4ms for one channel and +4 ms for the other channel.  That seemed to work but is there a better way.

Also what is the calculation to convert samples to msec. in 32 bit, 24 bit and 16 bit. this would get it closer.

Thanks

Audition Not Applying Effects, At All

Hey All, So I've been doing this workflow in adobe audition were I Render and Replace using Adobe Audition while in Premiere Pro and Dynamic linking, and its been working great, However now all of a sudden Its not working at all. I add a Noise Reduction process, and it will not apply it to anything, I can get it working in short 3-5sec segments but I need the effect to apply to the whole file. I'm clicking "Select Entire File" as well and still nothing, I haven't changed my workflow at all and its just stop working, This is really getting on my nerves and slowing my workflow down any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

5.1 - Rear Speakers in CS6

$

Hi,

Thanks in advance for your help. I took an online course in Audition, but there are a few specific things that were not covered (and that I can't figure out on my own). This is one of them.

(You may need to scroll all the way down to see everything).

For the purposes of troubleshooting, I have a track soloed.

When I set the 5.1 pan settings like this, I hear sound out of the rear speakers (as I should):

1.PNG

When I set my speakers as shown in either of the below pictures, I hear NO sound out of either of the rear speakers (front speakers work fine). Notice, the ONLY thing that has changed between Pictures 1 and 2 is the ANGLE. All I did in Picture 3 is set the radius to 0%.

Why is this? I'm thinking I don't get the concept of how this works. I thought the white lines basically signified relative volume levels from each speaker.

2.PNG3.PNG

Moreover, in the above-right scenario (the one with 0% radius), I can hear sound out of the LEFT, RIGHT, and CENTER speakers, but when I click the L and R buttons to mute the left and right speakers (shown below) I now hear nothing out of ANY speakers, including the Center speaker, which worked fine a second ago. Also, do I understand correctly that when the radius is at 0%, the 'Angle' and 'Stereo Spread' knobs do nothing?

Removing slight echo with audtion - recorded in room with hard walls

Hi

I just downloaded a trial of Audition CS4 for windows.

I have already used it to remove a few clicks which are evident in this short (attached) PRE-audition sample.

Now I would like to go in and remove (if possible) or at least reduce the slight "echo" of the room itself.  You can hear the "echo" in this attached wav file.

I realize I might not be able to remove all of the "echo" but if I could remove some of it it would be nice.

Thanks

Pasting from waveform into multitrack editor

$

Hi All,

We have a big problem and need your help :

We're editing podcasts in Audition CS6 and can't find a solution to this problem:

We would like to find a way to PASTE fragments from the waveforms (which have our markers) into the Multitrack editor without pasting the entire waveform into the editor (which makes us loose the marker descriptions). So far we are unable to do this as these are 2 different workspaces.

The only workaround we found is to make range markers in the waveform, export them to separete .wav files and import them into the multitrack editor but this is a way too time consuming process.

Thank you in advance for your help !

Disable auto-scrolling or real-time rendering in CS6

$

I work at a radio station and volunteers come in to read for a special reader service for the blind. When they record into Audition, the scrolling waveform is a distraction. In AA 3.0 there was a way to keep the screen from scrolling once the cursor went beyond the initial view. I can't figure out how to do that in CS6. The other thing I was thinking was to try and disable the waveform from rendering at all until after the recording was done.

Thanks!

How to change the default audio filetype in CS5.5?

I begin recording in the Multitrack and 5.5 insists on saving it as a .wav file.  At our company we only record at 320Kbps, 48Khz, Stereo .mp3 files.  How can I change the default in 5.5?
