Live-mixing levels during multitrack recording

Hi everyone,


I am using Audition CC 2014 on a Macbook Pro running Mavericks connected to an Alesis iO26 via firewire. My drivers are up to date. Adobe recognizes my hardware just fine, and I am able to set my inputs to my hardware channels without any problem.

 

Here's my problem:

 

I'm trying to record a multitrack session. When I record-enable my tracks and begin recording, I'm not able to adjust the input levels of my tracks using the track's volume knob or the faders in the mixer panel. I don't want Audition to change the input levels on my hardware - I want to adjust the recording levels in Audition.

 

When I lower the fader/volume knob, my monitor volume decreases, but the recording volume on each track is unchanged, regardless of how much I tweak the knob/fader. I'm sure this is a very basic, dopey question, but what am I doing wrong? Is it not possible to adjust the input volume in Audition during a recording?

Failed OMF Export

I am trying to export an OMF file from Adobe Audition CS6 and the program "generates the audio files for OMF export" perfectly. But when it gets to "Saving Multitrack" it gives me an error that states "Unable to open a required file" and cancels the export. It does not tell me what that required file is and all of my media is linked. How do I fix this error so I can export the OMF?

How to record classical guitar properly in Audition cs6?

Hi im Zen

 

i have some troubles with recording the classical guitars, i have some equipments that are not so bad for a home studio but so far i still havent received any desired quality

Let me go slowly on my gears, i have 2 systems for recording, PC windows and a laptop windows

 

PC system with this spec :

- 16 Gb Ram

- VGA : NVDIA Geforce GTX 580

- CPU : core i7 2600k

- Sound card : ASUS Xonar Essence STX

 

Laptop system spec:

- 8GB RAM

- VGA: NVIDIA geforce GT 750M

-CPU : core i7 3630QM

- Sound : MOTU Microbook II inteface ( i had to buy this to use over the build in sound card)

 

They both use Audition CS6.

Currently im using RODE NTA2 - Dynamic mic for recording.

 

Now the problem i have is the sound quality is nothing different from a crappy sound when we stand outside and stand away from the mic a few yards(classical guitar, when i record on laptop). it doesnt give me a rich and deep tone, it also gives me some unexpected electrical or environment noise even i activated the high pass filter or reduce the sensitive of the mic.  Or after i use EQ in After Effect, pump up the high frequency and reduce the low frequency to achieve some rich tone but what i got a long with it is the noise too. im not sure what im doing wrong or have something not right with my equipments. i dont think Audition makes any better sound if the input is bad so im really grateful if you can point out the issue from my laptop system or the audition settings.

i forgot to mention, when i record i just left everything default in Audition and record the pure sound.

 

The next thing, the reason i post my PC spec too because when i tried to swap the MOTU microbook to my PC, sound card from PC and MOTU conflicts and everything crashed, if i remove the Xonar Essence driver and replace it with MOTU then the sound output i think not much different from the laptop system. so i could never record on my PC, the Xonar doesnt have a plugin for the mic either.

I do not know what to do, should i change any setting of the audition or i have to add any extra equipment like a preamp. If a preamp, any reckon for my situation? i would like to record on my PC, not laptop anymore so a good advice to switch to record on it would be appreciated.

Problems with Re-Installation of Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Standard (update from Premium)?

Dear Community, after having initialized my Harddisk and upgraded my iMac to OS X Yosemite Vers 110.10.2 I found out that my CD both from the Original CS Premium and the update to CS 5 Design Standard I now cannot load these applications anymore. The direct contact to Adobe support is very irritating as they guide you through all sorts of pages w/o giving the possibility of a direct access to support.

Are there anybody out there who encountered the same kind of problem and is there a way to fix that problem one way or another. I need urgent help desperately. Tis for you support

How to group Left and Right audio tracks from a .OMF file?

Hi, i'm editing the sound of my short film, i've sent a .OMF to audition from premiere, but the left and right tracks are seperate tracks in the multitrack session, how would i group them so whatever i do to one channel, will be done to the other

Hey everyone,

 

I apologize for my ignorance, but I've got a long list of things to learn about technology, and I just learned a lot about computer specs and features, so, I'm a little spent. I've just finished a list of parts for a custom build, and once that's done, I need to put together a method for tracking sound. I've seen on a few threads here that you can't get two mics mapped to a separate track each unless you're using a microphone pre or mixer with multiple mic inputs... and that's unfortunate, because, having spent over $1k for the computer build, I'm not exactly keen on spending hundreds more for microphones, a middleman device, the pop filters, the stands, AND the cables. Other than the mic pre, that's at least two of everything, and it'll get expensive fast.

 

So... if I use two USB mics on one computer with Adobe Audtion, then the voice from each microphone will be record to a single track, correct? If I wanted to edit the voice, I'd have to go to that individual point in time during the track instead of referring to, say, "Track A for Voice A" or "Track B for voice B," right?

When I import a file containing markers (using "Split at Markers" recorded in Twisted Wave) Audition adds an additional marker to EACH file (labeled "Marker 2") .  Any thoughts as to why?

Adding DTS-MA soundtrack to an mpeg 4 video file

As a personal project I am attempting to take some high definition videos (1080P) with low definition sound and bump the sound up to at least CD quality in Premiere via mpeg4 files.  For example Bob Dylans "Duquesne Whistle" video is 1080p but has an audio bitrate of only 254 Kbps.  I would like to take the CD version of the song (which almost always is used for the videos so synching is not usually a problem) and replace the 254 Kbps audio track with the higher bitrate CD track.  The CD hasn't arrived yet from Amazon, but I guess it should be in the 600-700 kbps range.

 

Similarly I want to take some Blu-Ray MTS-MA .m2ts files and extract the musical segments, such as individual songs on Glee disks.

 

There are multiple problems which I've encountered.  Premiere Pro does not recognize the audio in a .m2ts file so I have to convert the file to a .mov in order to get both audio and video into Premiere.  But the program which I use to do the conversion down-rezes the audio to 320.

 

This thread DTS Audio   mentions Tranzcode, Tranzgui and the DTS-HD MAS encoder suite.  Would these allow me to read the DTS-MA track, split it into a codec supported by Premiere, and they allow me to render back to DTS-MA?  Even better would be if they would allow Premiere to see the audio track, and then allow the rendering of a .mp4 with DTS-MA.

 

A subset of this would be doing the same thing for the CD audio track.  I assume DTS-MA would be overkill her, but is there a way to get greater than 320/640 kbps audio output from Premiere, i.e., the CD audio bitrate between 700 & 800?

why does audition stop recording for no apparent reason?

We are using Audition clous version 64 bit on a laptop with i5 processor, 4 gb memory, SATA3 SSD drive.  It is connected via Firewire to a Presonus 24 channel board.

 

We have had several situations while recording where the audio levels drop to zero and audition continues recording with no audio.  This has occurred on both our Presonus 24 and our Presonus 16.0.2 board.  A reboot of the computer brings everything back and usually after a couple of reboots we can get a solid hour without issue.

 

If anyone has experiecned this issue using a Presonus mixer connected via firewire, I would be interested in hearing any insights you may have.  Thank you in advance.

Syncing a new single non voice track with existing tracks in Multi track

I am working on a multi track project in which tracks 1 through 12 are all in sync.   I exported a rough mix and sent it to someone to lay down a drum track to. Now, the drum track does not sync in the time line with the other tracks. What would be the best way to sync the drums? I would do it manual by it a appears as though I can't get it exact since the manual moving of the wav file over and undershoots the target valve in the track above. Is there a way to toggle something with the timeline so that it gives me a little more flexibility. It seams to be locked into some time increment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE:  A new 5.0.1 update build has been made available as of July 20, 2012, due to an issue discovered in the Dynamics Processing effect.  If you previously updated Adobe Audition CS6, please visit the links below and install the new update.  This update is not available via Adobe Update Manager and must be downloaded via the website.

 

Today we released an update to address several bugs in Audition CS6. Many were minor workflow issues, but a few could cause Audition to crash under certain circumstances.

 

 

bugs fixed in Adobe Audition CS6 5.0.1 update:

  • APE files with metadata inserted by other editors cause Audition to crash (Windows)
  • If previous session directory no longer exists, Audition leaves the Folder Location field empty
  • Multitrack fades no longer respect the fade type preference.  (Worked in CS5.5)
  • Audition may crash when users choose to create unique copies of selected MT regions
  • Playback stutters when creating a unique copy of a clip while right-click dragging
  • Channel Mix settings not honored on export when not exposed in dialog
  • EUCON Soft Key set contains keys that do nothing
  • Session Tempo broken on systems using commas instead of decimal points
  • Bounce to New Track > Selected Track bounces AFTER passing through track output
  • If a favorite was recorded on subset of channels, the favorite will fail if those channels are disabled
  • Sending a stereo bus side-chained to a mono track may crash the application
  • UAD-2 plug-ins missing from Windows Effects menu
  • Audition may crash on launch when CoolType encounters certain installed fonts (Mac)

Adobe Audition CS6 (5.0.2) update patch released

Hey Audition friends!

This morning we released an update patch for Adobe Audition CS6.  This update, version 5.0.2 for Mac and Windows, fixes several bugs discovered after release that could not be fixed in time for the earlier patch, and cleans up a few odds and ends to ensure Audition is fully compatible for use on Windows 8.  Briefly, here are the primary bug fixes:

  • Metronone may skip or stutter
  • Windows registry entry missing backslash in path
  • Eucon/Avid Artist control surface touchscreen: Control of Surround Panner does not work
  • Bounce to New Track > Selected Track: New track is now based on channelization of source track
  • Windows 8: Third-party drivers do not have a valid WHQL signature
  • CD Burning: Removed 78 minute limit from CD Layout.
  • Audition may crash on Mac when exporting to OMF
  • Audition may crash when attempting to bounce a track with a channelization that does not match the Master track

 

You may install the update by selecting Help > Updates… in Adobe Audition CS6 or through the Adobe Application Manager tool.  Additionally, you may download the patch installer directly for Mac and Windows.

UAD 2 plugins won't allow me to Bounce, despite low DSP usage

I would like to reopen the issue of UAD 2 not allowing one to bounce, with error message "UAD plugin has been disabled. DSP memory load exceeded." But my DPS says only 46% or even less. I have two UAD 2 cards. It seems to be random which sessions do this, it seems to make no sense, but the bottom line is that I am really sick of dealing with this problem. After hours of mixing *in front of clients*, I cannot do a bounce. Nor can I have any crossfades, but I'd be happy to be able to just do a bounce. Help.

 

UAD says the don't support Audition and I think this is unacceptable. Adobe and UAD should me mutually supportive, and why this isn't happening is a mystery to me.

I cannot work like this any more.

Is there anyone out there who can help?

Note: I do have CS6 5.0 build 708. I have missed a couple of patch updates, 5.2. Does this update address this problem?

Question regarding updating to 5.2 - Will I have to reinstall my VST plugins after updating? I'm mid-project and don't want to do anything major, but if not, and it will fix my problems, then I'll do it.

create stems from a 5.1 mix, How?

I'm trying to import a 5.1 mix into Premiere but since the mix is over 4 gigs premiere wont load the file...

 

I'd like to import each stem of that 5.1 file individually?

 

How can I output that 5.1 file out of Audition with each track as a mono file?

 

The 5.1 was originally created in Protools but loads into Audition just fine.
